Services that Support Advertising Decisions
The Audit Bureau of Circulations audits the circulation claims of almost 3/4 of North American publications and disseminates the data in the form of various statements and reports.
1. Publisher's Statements are prepared by ABC publisher members every six months and contain data on their circulation. ABC issues these statements in two categories: newspapers and periodicals. The following data contained in the Publisher's Statements can be used by advertisers:
2. Audit Reports are prepared annually and contain circulation data reported in the Publisher's Statements verified by audit. Audit reports provide breakouts by county and by U.S. ZIP code or Canadian Postal Code that are not in the Publisher's Statements. Among the facts included in Audit Reports are the publication's county and town circulation strength, market penetration, distribution methods, bulk sales profile, press runs by edition, and return policies, for example.
3. Blue Books present a complete collection of all ABC-member Publisher's Statements. They are issued twice a year and are organized by publication division.
4. Supplemental Data Reports offer information that is not required in the regular ABC-member Publisher's Statements. This data includes, for instance, pass-along readership figures or analysis of county distribution or demographics and is subject to ABC audit.
5. Interim Publisher's Statements cover the period of the first three months within the regular six-month statement period and are designed for ABC members who want to report significant changes in their circulation.
6. FAS-FAX Reports provide a quick reference for print media planning and analyses. They compile the very latest summary circulation figures and are issued twice a year in five separate hard-copy volumes before the actual Publisher's Statements are released.
7. Magazine Trend Reports contain five-year advertising rate data, subscription and newsstand data, rate base/circulation guarantees and other trend figures for U.S. and Canadian magazines.
